The Fourth Step to Purpose
Have you looked at the first three steps to purpose?

Are you ready for this?
This is not "pop-culture religion." This is radical Christianity!

When Jesus came to earth there was an announcement given by angels to certain shepherds that the Messiah had been born. The announcement said, "Peace on earth, good will toward men."
What a wonderful vision! But peace on earth has not yet been achieved. In fact, when Jesus grew up and started His ministry, He said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword" (Matthew 10:34).
So what gives? Were the angels misinformed? Maybe they were singing from the wrong hymn book. No, of course not. Jesus certainly came to bring peace on earth; it's just that prophetic announcements seldom explain the details. Peace on earth and good will toward men describes the final result of Jesus’ plan, but it does not describe the road to get there.
Jesus’ plan to establish peace on earth is working just fine. He came the first time to establish a core group to carry out His plan. He commissioned them to go and make disciples of the nations by teaching people to observe His teachings. Our job is to make the necessary preparations by preaching the gospel of the kingdom and making disciples. We are to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel (good news) of peace (see Eph 6:15). Since that job is not yet finished it has become ours. When it is finished, Jesus will come again and establish peace on earth.
The power whereby Jesus will subdue all things and bring peace on earth is the same power whereby His people shall put on immortality. Consider this scripture:

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.
                               —Philippians 3:20-21 (NASB)
Therefore, look for the appearing of Jesus Christ for two reasons:
  1. that we might put on immortality, and
  2. to see the whole world be brought into subjection to Jesus (the fulfillment of His promise to bring peace on earth).
Jesus' return will be an unmistakable supernatural and event for those who know and love Him. However, we must consider the possibility that it will not be an unmistakable event for the rest of the inhabitants of the earth. In fact, like the first time Jesus came, there will likely be many who do not believe Jesus is the Messiah.
The first time He came he was viewed as a threat to the establishment—and they had Him killed. He did not resist them because His purpose was to die and pay for the sins of the world. He was the Sacrifice Lamb.
When He comes the second time He may also be viewed as a threat to the establishment. However, this time, His purpose is to subdue all the nations under Himself. He will lead an army of immortal saints and subdue the world to Himself. As the scriptures say:
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.               —Revelation 19:11-16
What a fearful yet glorious picture this passage presents! What a purpose! This is The Cause! What a cause to work for! What a banner to march under! What a King we serve! He is the Prince of Peace! He is the KING OF KINGS AND THE LORD OF LORDS!
